A giant submarine canyon that starts just off the beach at Moss Landing in Monterey Bay, California. Its main channel winds more than 400 km out to sea and ends on the abyssal plain about 4,000 m down.
Drawn at the same scale, Monterey Canyon is very similar in size and shape to the Grand Canyon. Its walls rise as high as 1,700 m.
Pull the plug and watch the sea level fall, explore the seafloor as real terrain, find what lies off your own coast, and follow guided stories, from the Ice Age land bridge between England and France to the wreck of the Titanic. Everything is built from GEBCO's grid of the world's ocean floor and land.
